Laminate Wood Floors
The popularity of laminate flooring has risen significantly in recent years. This is due to a number of different reasons which will be explained and elaborated upon in this article. To start with the finish on laminate flooring today is extremely high quality that they directly complete with traditional wooden flooring. There are a number of different finishes and visual designs available in the Right Floor range available today they no longer are an alternative to hardwood flooring, they are now an equal substitute.
Hardwood flooring traditionally needs a lot of care and maintenance, this is not the case when it comes to laminate flooring. Once they are installed they are extremely easy to maintain. They just require sweeping and cleaning which also gives them an advantage over carpets which absorb dirt. The installation of laminate floors is also fairly simple and can be done by the home owners themselves. This is because of the use of the simplistic tongue and groove system which allows each piece to be retro fitted to the next. Therefore the only tricky part is to get the alignment right and being able to cut side strips to size. They can even be installed over existing flooring systems,
so there’s no need to rip up vinyl flooring or wood floors. The laminate flooring can just be placed over the top without any need for adhesive or bonding to the under flooring.
Fitting laminate flooring is an intermediate DIY task but one that can be picked up fairly quickly. The
process in essence follows these steps:
- Measuring the area that the flooring will be laid in to decide the amount that needs to be bought
- Choosing the flooring that suits your interior decoration tastes and needs
- Preparing the sub floor and putting down an underlay for protection
- Planning out the route and placement of the laminate floor planks
- Going around pipes on the floor and other obstacles that require adjustments
- Enjoy your new laminate floors
If this process seems too daunting or you would rather relax and just enjoy the results then you can hire a fitter. Most places that sell laminate flooring will be able to recommend a fitter that you can contact to have your flooring installed. They will do the job quickly and professionally, taking the hassle and stress out of having a new floor installed.
There are some potential things to watch out for when using laminate floors, this includes the risk of static shock. In rare instanced laminate flooring can give people static shocks as they have low electrical conductivity. This means that they do not pass on electricity to the earth for grounding very well, and so the electricity generated from friction is passed onto the person on it. This can be an irritating issue. However there is a simple solution – keeping the air in the room humid. Having moisture in the air helps with the electrical conductivity of the flooring and takes away from the static build up effect. This can be done with a humidifier unit.
